Dear Parent’s Domain Community,
As a parent and a therapist, I know parenting is difficult. It’s a roller coaster of a journey where you have moments of pure heart-warming joy, moments of worry and moments where we just feel out of control. Am I the perfect parent? NO. Do I make mistakes? ABSOLUTELY. Are my children perfectly behaved? DEFINITELY NOT. It’s a tough gig this parenting business and each milestone or corner I turn in my parenting journey is full of surprises, situations and conversations I am not prepared for. We all make mistakes as parents. At times we might say the wrong things, get angry and frustrated with our children, let our fears and worries tighten our boundaries and impose unhelpful limits. It’s all a part of the learning because children don’t come with manuals - it’s a bit of trial and error. What may work for one child may not work for another. What works one day may not work the next. It’s the simple things that children need, with the main ingredient being unconditional love and acceptance.
Having worked with children and families for over 15 years, the parents that I meet and welcome me into their lives all want something different for themselves as parents, as well as something more for their child: more loving moments, less tension, better relationships, more patience in difficult moments, more understanding… and just to be a better parent who responds differently to their child and for their child to be happy.
So I thought, How can I support more children and families? Who are those who truly shape the lives of children? Parents, families, care givers, educators, key workers… So, I decided to embark on a journey to create a community, a community that supports key people who shape and influence the lives of children. That community is Parent’s Domain! I strive to provide resources, activities, blogs and helpful tips that support children, families, educators and key workers. We can stay connected through Parent’s Domain social media pages - Facebook, Instagram and this website.
I’m excited that we are on this journey together. Thank you for allowing me into your lives.
Much love
Annette
P.S Just remember you don’t have to be a perfect parent or the best parent, just strive to be the best parent that your child needs and it looks different for every parent.
